A little demo in the downstairs!

Big week!   200 Amp electrical service is installed.  Inspector will be out Tuesday for final inspection and Eversource is going to do the final cutover on the street (likely upgrading the line).  There ended up being 4 bad circuits in the house, all of which either needed new plugs, switches or wiring, resulting in the new style breakers constantly tripping.  This has all been resolved.   In prep for the HVAC system including new furnace, water heater, duct work, etc. I dissembled the majority of the “right bedroom” (maybe that’s what we’ll call it?).  This involved taking the ceiling down, sheetrock, walls, door, etc. So much nicer looking now! Original: Cleaned Out!! Unfortunately found some old mold.  Best guess is the water heater let go at some point and flooded downstairs.  The basement itself seems pretty dry.  This will all be ripped out in due time!

A little light for the driveway...

Harry and I did some lamp post work this weekend down the cape. Believe it or not., this lamp post was only moved about 7 feet from where the old one was. Took the latern home and had all new glass put in it. The latern is an original Nauset Lantern Company light! Big difference with no trees in the way! https://nausetlanternshop.com/products/cape-cod-post?variant=43342101971107 Old: Check out that fancy electrical!  Yes, that's a metal box with no cover on an outside lamp post! Kitchen Demo!

Demolition started on the 1972 kitchen.  The particle board cabinetry easily comes down but it's gross after so many years of grease and grime getting into it.  Here we took out the two return walls and some of the cabinetry.  It will open the space real nice to the living room and sunroom area.

Tree time!

The trees were a real problem at this house.  First and foremost, you couldn't actually see the house from the road.  This is supposed to be a summer time beach spot and instead it felt like a cabin in the woods.  After taking 11 trees down and many overgrown bushes, the front lot is cleared.  In the spring we'll connect the left and right driveways with a nice circular driveway.  We even put a new mailbox up!

Welcome to 31 Chase Lane

We had a great vacation this past summer in Orleans, MA spent with our family. Mark and I have always known one day we would be ready for a second property, we were just waiting for the right time and place. Both of our families are no strangers to the Cape so while we were on vacation, Mark and I linked up with a realtor in the area. Amanda and Jen of Whitaker Group ( https://www.whitakergroupcc.com/blank-2 ) were fantastic to work with. We visited several homes during our trip and signed a three month agreement with Amanda and Jen to continue the search once we returned home. We were looking for a home that would need just a bit of love to become our second home. Our Marblehead home certainly prepared us well for another project! 31 Chase landed in our lap and after visiting the property, Mark knew this was the one that would build the best equity with the amount of work we would put in. So here we are! The tree removal has already taken place and the home is now visible from th...
